In the Netherlands we ride our bikes a lot. Living in the city, bicycle routes can be quite crowded. When I had my firstborn I remember waiting for a traffic light with him in his stroller. Completely filled with hormones I was certain we had to move out of the city as a family. How could it ever be possible for him to ride in such a place with his bike?
He is 11 years old now. He rides his bike together with his schoolmates to the city centre and to sports. Sometimes he even complains about tourists not knowing how to ride their rental bikes. How could I be so wrong?! Together we have already made a list of our favourite cafes, for me the best coffee in town, for him the best spots to play.
In the survey we recently sent out we received some interesting answers. Thank you for your responses. In the Secure Nest team we are certain about our mission to increase the accessibility of schema therapy to enrich the wellbeing of individuals. We know where we want to go, but the path to get there is even more exciting. One important finding is that users would like ‘how-to’ videos. Another suggestion made by users is to provide more information on ways of working through Secure Nest. We will work on that.
For now I will highlight 3 different cycle routes you could take on the Secure Nest platform.
First the fast lane. You go to the Dashboard and then you choose the Library. In there you will find several categories. You scroll down to the Audio Files. If you have completed the assessments at the start of the Self-Education Program you know your most important schemas and modes. Listen to the exercises which align with your schemas and modes. Although you like to ride in the fast lane, it helps to repeat the exercises and focus on, lets say, 3 exercises maximum. Use these exercises for at least 2 weeks, and see what it brings you.
If you like to ride the more quiet routes, you start again at the Dashboard. Then you choose Identify My Modes. Fill in some Mode Diaries for a week to see if you can recognise the different modes suggested after you filled in the assessment at the start of the Self-Education Program. To have more of an experience the second week you also go to the Library. In the Audio Files you try Accepting the Vulnerable Child Imagery, A Safe Space for the Vulnerable Child Mode and Awareness of Your Unfulfilled Emotional Needs Imagery. And just stay with that for the next two weeks.
The third suggestion is for real scenery lovers. It’s an easy one. You choose the Self-Education Program and use the option to be guided through all the self-help modules by email. Sally and Joseph have built a nice route for you together with places to work, play and learning to enjoy the scenery.
Please try out one of the above routes and tell us what you find on your way. We will also make some videos, we are already busy planning this into our journey.
Recently I travelled to Paris with my two children. We experienced playing games and drinking coffee is also great in the city of Love. Still, our favourite spot is the one reachable by riding our bikes in our hometown.
Next week I will write about ENLIGHT 2019. I have just been send in some great slides from the conference. For now, have a nice and safe journey.

But it is the journey that matters, in the end.”
